Introducing Real Travel Talk: A New Bi-Monthly Newsletter from Joyned

What happens when you compare the travel industry’s trend forecasts to what people actually say when planning a trip?

At Joyned, we believe that if you want to understand travelers, you have to listen to them. That’s why we’re excited to launch Real Travel Talk, our new bi-monthly newsletter that puts real group travel conversations under the spotlight.

Every two months, Real Travel Talk will dig into thousands of real planning chats to answer a key question: Are the trends the industry talks about actually showing up in real-life trip decisions?

This isn’t just another trend report. It’s travel insight, straight from the source-conversations between people planning their next getaway together.

How We Do It

Each edition of Real Travel Talk analyzes anonymized group chats from travelers using Joyned across partner booking platforms. We look at:

  • Which travel trends come up organically (if at all)
  • How frequently they appear
  • What the sentiment and tone of those mentions is-curiosity, excitement, resistance?

This gives us an authentic snapshot of traveler behavior, motivations, and decision-making-something no clickstream data or industry panel can offer.

Travel Trends vs. Traveler Truths: What We Learned from April Group Chats

In our debut issue, we focused on April’s planning conversations to test one simple hypothesis: Do the travel trends we hear at conferences and in reports actually shape how people plan trips?

Here’s a taste of what we found:

1.  Value-Driven Planning: Inflation Hits Hard

Travelers aren’t just budget-conscious-they’re value-obsessed. Across chats, groups compared package breakdowns, celebrated all-inclusive wins, and dropped options that didn’t “justify the extra spend.”

2. Experience-Centric Travel: Activities Take Centre Stage

It’s the activities-not the hotel-that generate excitement. From reef tours to ski extras, chats showed that memorable experiences are what tip the scale.

3. Family Travel Is Back

Multi-gen families are planning trips democratically-with clear roles, long threads, and shared decision-making. One “this won’t work for the kids” comment can change everything.

Every edition brings you:

  • Verified travel trend insights (backed by real chat data)
  • Practical takeaways you can apply to content, CX, and product design

We’re launching our first full issue this month-so keep your eyes on your inbox. And next time someone mentions a “top trend,” ask yourself:

Is that real… or just talk?
